The second phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir concluded on Wednesday, October 26th, with a reported voter turnout of 57.31%. This figure, announced by the Election Commission (EC), represents a decline compared to the first phase of voting, which saw a turnout of 61.38%. Furthermore, the second phase turnout fell short of the overall turnout recorded in the 2014 elections, which stood at 65.52%.
The second phase of elections saw voting taking place in 26 constituencies across the region. Of these, 58.35% of male voters, 56.22% of female voters, and 30.19% of third-gender voters cast their ballots. The EC has indicated that the final turnout figures, incorporating postal ballots, will be released at a later stage.
The third and final phase of polling in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections is scheduled for October 1st, 2023. Following this phase, the counting of votes will commence on October 8th. The results of these elections will determine the composition of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, playing a significant role in the political landscape of the region.
