The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader, P.K. Kunhalikutty, has demanded an explanation from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding a reported meeting between M.R. Ajith Kumar, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), and Dattatreya Hosabale, general secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), in Thrissur earlier this year. This demand comes amidst allegations that the meeting could have influenced the outcome of the recent Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Kunhalikutty, addressing the media in Kozhikode, expressed his concern about the lack of transparency surrounding the meeting. He stated that such developments were unprecedented in Kerala politics and demanded that the Chief Minister clarify his stance on the matter. He emphasized the people's right to know the details, questioning Vijayan's silence on the issue.
The IUML leader further claimed that reports about the meeting had deeply disturbed secular-minded individuals. He accused both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in manipulative tactics to sway the Lok Sabha election, specifically in the Thrissur constituency. He alleged that the Thrissur Pooram festivities, a significant cultural event in Kerala, were deliberately disrupted to benefit the BJP.
Kunhalikutty went on to accuse the BJP and the ruling party of resorting to unethical methods by obstructing the Pooram to gain votes. He asserted that a conspiracy was hatched to exploit the official machinery and the police system for electoral advantage. He reiterated the Communist Party of India's demand for an investigation into the matter and urged Vijayan to make his position clear on the alleged meeting and its potential impact on the elections.
