Kolkata Doctor Murder: BJP Alleges Tampering of Evidence
  • BJP alleges ex-principal ordered renovation near crime scene.
  • Letter authorizing work dated August 10, one day after death.
  • Opposition claims attempt to tamper with evidence.

The tragic death of a doctor in Kolkata, found raped and murdered in a seminar hall, has taken a new turn with the BJP alleging potential tampering of evidence at the crime scene. The party claims that Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, ordered renovations near the seminar hall just one day after the victim's death, raising suspicion about the intent behind the work.

Sukanta Mazumdar, the Bengal BJP chief, shared a purported letter signed by Sandip Ghosh authorizing the renovation work. The letter, dated August 10th, requests repairs to doctors' rooms and toilets within the hospital. Mazumdar argues that this timing, just a day after the victim's death, raises concerns about potential efforts to alter the crime scene. Although the authenticity of the letter cannot be independently verified, its existence has fueled controversy and allegations of misconduct.

The BJP-led opposition has pointed to the letter as evidence of a deliberate attempt to tamper with evidence. They have criticized the police commissioner for denying allegations of crime scene manipulation despite the concerns raised by colleagues and protesters. The victim's family has also expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital's initial response, alleging that they were initially told she died by suicide and were made to wait for hours to see her body.

The case has attracted national attention, with the Supreme Court questioning the Bengal government about the delay in registering the FIR under murder-related sections. The arrest of Sandip Ghosh by the CBI, earlier this week, for alleged financial irregularities, including selling corpses, further complicates the situation. The doctor's death, amidst a 36-hour shift, has sent shockwaves through the medical community and raised questions about the safety of healthcare professionals.

The arrest of a civil volunteer, Sanjay Roy, for the alleged rape and murder of the doctor, adds to the complexity of the case. While the investigation is ongoing, the allegations of tampering with evidence and the accusations against Sandip Ghosh have significantly complicated the narrative and cast a shadow of doubt over the initial responses of the hospital authorities.
