The recent pager blasts that shook Lebanon have taken an unexpected turn, with Indian authorities investigating a Kerala man, Rinson Jose, who is suspected of being involved. The Wayanad Special Branch (SB) police have initiated inquiries into Jose, who left Wayanad for Norway a decade ago. While Jose is not currently a target of any investigations in India, the authorities are gathering information from his family and are seeking to understand his activities and potential connections to the blasts.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Special Branch, Wayanad, P.L. Shyju, revealed that officials visited Jose's family home in Mananthavady to collect information from his parents. However, they reported being unaware of the situation and unable to reach him by phone since the incident. This suggests a potential disconnect between Jose's activities in Norway and his family's knowledge of his involvement.
Reports indicate that Jose has been active within the Malayali community in Norway, where he previously operated a job consultancy. His LinkedIn profile reveals that he has been employed with DN Media Group since March 2022 and manages NortaLink, a company focused on IT services, consulting, procurement, and recruiting. Norta Global Limited, reportedly viewed as a shell company associated with NortaLink, adds another layer to the investigation.
Friends of Jose have described him as a man with an impressive educational background, holding an MBA from Pondicherry University and a Master's in International Social Welfare and Health Policy from Oslo Metropolitan University. He has also served as a teacher with the Poor Servants of Divine Providence (PDSP). However, his family remains oblivious to the specifics of his business ventures, raising questions about the extent of his activities.
On Friday, September 20, 2024, the police conducted ground checks to assess the financial situation of Jose's family and gather further details regarding their circumstances. This investigation aims to uncover potential financial ties or support that Jose may have received from his family, shedding light on his motivations and resources.
The investigation into Rinson Jose's potential involvement in the Lebanon pager blasts highlights the transnational nature of security threats. While the police are gathering information from Jose's family, it remains unclear how he may have been involved in the blasts and what role his businesses in Norway might have played. This case underscores the challenge of investigating individuals operating across international borders and the importance of international collaboration to address emerging security threats.
