  • Yellow alert issued for 6
  • Landslides, flooding warned

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for Kerala, predicting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across most parts of the state. This downpour is expected to continue until September 13, prompting authorities to issue yellow alerts for six districts: Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, and Ernakulam.

These districts are predicted to receive heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm. The IMD has urged the public to exercise caution during this period, particularly in areas susceptible to landslides, landslips, and waterlogging. Residents in vulnerable regions are advised to relocate to safer locations.

The state disaster management authority has echoed the IMD's warnings, urging people to remain vigilant in light of the heavy rain forecast. The anticipated downpour could lead to various challenges, including poor visibility, temporary disruptions in traffic and power due to waterlogging or uprooted trees, damage to crops, and even flash floods.

Further compounding the situation, the IMD has predicted squally weather in Kerala until September 11, with wind speeds ranging from 45-55 kmph and gusting up to 65 kmph. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts during this period due to the adverse weather conditions.
