Jakhar Remains Punjab BJP Chief: Rumors Denied
  • Punjab BJP denies Jakhar's resignation.
  • Jakhar remains state party leader.
  • Rumors fueled by media reports.

The Punjab BJP has issued a strong denial of rumors surrounding the resignation of Sunil Jakhar, reaffirming his position as the party's state leader. These rumors, fueled by a media report, sparked speculation about Jakhar's future within the party. However, the BJP has categorically dismissed these claims, with close aide Sanjeev Trikha asserting that there is no truth to the resignation claims. Further strengthening this denial, Punjab BJP general secretary Anil Sarin labelled the rumors as “totally baseless and false.” He emphasized that Jakhar continues to hold the position of Punjab unit chief, putting an end to the speculation surrounding his leadership.

Adding clarity to Jakhar's recent absence from a party meeting on Thursday, Sarin clarified that attending every gathering is not mandatory for the state unit chief. This explanation seeks to dispel any further doubt about Jakhar's commitment to his role. The speculation surrounding Jakhar's resignation was met with a seemingly playful response from Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, who commented on X, “Mr @sunilkjakhar, All the best, where next?” This comment highlights the political tension and intrigue surrounding the situation and Jakhar's future within the BJP.

Sunil Jakhar assumed the role of Punjab BJP chief in July 2023, succeeding BJP MLA Ashwani Sharma. His appointment followed his joining the BJP in May 2022 after Congress's defeat in the Punjab assembly elections. Jakhar boasts a notable political history, having served as an MLA from Abohar, a Lok Sabha MP from Gurdaspur, and the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly from 2012 to 2016. He is the son of the late Balram Jakhar, a prominent figure in Indian politics who held the positions of union minister and Lok Sabha Speaker. Jakhar's political journey and lineage contribute to his significant presence within the Punjab political landscape, making the speculation surrounding his resignation particularly noteworthy.
