Anika, a third-year BA LLB (Hons) student, was found deceased in her hostel room on Saturday night. Initial reports suggest that she died from cardiac arrest, a devastating and sudden medical event. Anika's father, a 1998 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer currently serving with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), is undoubtedly facing immense grief during this difficult time.
The university released an official statement expressing deep sorrow over Anika's passing, confirming that she died around 10 pm on Saturday night due to cardiac arrest. While the cause of death has been attributed to cardiac arrest, further investigations are currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Anika's demise. The news of Anika's death comes at a time when several other student deaths have been reported in India. Last week, a student from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, was found dead at his apartment. Anurag Jaiswal, who had attended a party with friends the previous night, was discovered unresponsive the following morning. While the matter is still under investigation, suspicions of hazing have emerged. Another incident involved a 23-year-old MTech student at IIT Guwahati, who was found hanging in her hostel room on August 9, 2024. These cases serve as a stark reminder of the pressures and challenges faced by students in India's competitive academic environment.
