The much-anticipated second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur has been abandoned due to persistent wet outfield conditions. The match was called off without a single ball being bowled on the third day, marking the second consecutive day of play being washed out. This unfortunate turn of events leaves the series, which India is currently leading 1-0, with an uncertain outcome.
Despite the sun making an appearance shortly after the officials called off play, the ground remained damp due to overnight rain. Throughout the day, match officials conducted multiple inspections, noting soggy patches on the field, particularly around the mid-off, cover, gully, and slip regions. The practice pitch was also deemed unplayable. The Indian team opted to stay in the hotel rather than travel to the venue, while the Bangladeshi team arrived around 1:40 pm, only to see their hopes of a cricket match dashed 20 minutes later.
The abandonment is a major disappointment for both teams and fans who were eagerly anticipating a contest between the two cricketing nations. With no rain predicted for the remainder of the week, there is a chance that some cricketing action might take place, although a result in the match now seems highly improbable.
On the positive side, Bangladesh has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India. The series, set to take place in Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad between October 6th and 12th, will offer a different kind of cricketing spectacle. Notably, all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz makes a return to the T20I side after a 14-month hiatus. This move strengthens Bangladesh's all-round capabilities and adds another dimension to their already formidable T20I team.
The Bangladesh squad consists of Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmud Ullah, Litton Kumer Das, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Rakibul Hasan.
