The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) took action on Monday, September 23, 2024, to dismantle several structures within a plot designated as a colony park in the Kavuri Hills area of Madhapur. This operation was conducted based on court directives, as the land was illegally occupied. These structures, constructed with tin roofing, were reportedly leased out to a sports academy by the colony's welfare association for a period of 25 years. This lease agreement was made after the removal of a sign clearly indicating the park's designation. However, this act by the colony association was a violation of regulations, as areas designated for open spaces are legally obligated to be given to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) through a gift deed for the purpose of developing greenery and other facilities. The colony association does not possess the right to lease out such spaces. Following the demolition, HYDRAA staff members replanted the sign signifying GHMC's ownership of the park and inscribed on the park's walls that it belonged to the GHMC. The Commissioner of HYDRAA, A.V. Ranganath, confirmed that the action taken was based on court directions, emphasizing the importance of upholding legal procedures and protecting public spaces.
