On the International Day of Democracy, a remarkable display of unity and commitment to democratic principles unfolded in Mysuru district, Karnataka. An estimated 60,000 people came together to form a human chain spanning a remarkable 58 kilometers, from Siddalingapura on the city's outskirts to Muguru in T. Narsipur taluk.

The human chain, a collaborative effort orchestrated by the Mysuru district administration, Zilla Panchayat, City Corporation, and various state government departments, involved a diverse array of participants. Students from numerous schools and colleges, government officials, teachers, NCC cadets, sanitation workers, and members of the public all joined hands, creating a visual testament to their shared values.

This impressive demonstration of unity in Mysuru was part of a larger human chain initiative organized by the Karnataka government, extending across the state from Bidar to Chamarajanagar. The chain served as a symbolic representation of the state's commitment to equality, unity, fraternity, and the ideals of participatory governance, all fundamental tenets of a democratic society.

The formation of the human chain commenced around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, starting from Siddalingapura and winding its way through various key locations in Mysuru. The chain passed through significant landmarks, including Manipal Hospital junction, Ambedkar Circle in Gandhinagar, Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Hardinge Circle, Mysuru Zoo, Outer Ring Road, Varuna village, Keelanapura, Kempayyanahundi, T. Narsipur town, and ultimately reaching Mugur village, situated on the border of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts.

To facilitate the participation of individuals from various parts of the district, the authorities arranged KSRTC buses for transportation. The event drew participation from a diverse range of dignitaries, including legislators, people's representatives, and officials. These dignitaries gathered near Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple to commemorate International Day of Democracy, an event that also saw the participation of the renowned Dasara elephants.

Former Minister and MLA representing Narasimharaja assembly constituency, Tanveer Sait, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the historical significance of the human chain formation. He urged the people to strengthen human values and protect the Constitution of India, a document crafted by B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. As the participants held hands, dignitaries read aloud the Preamble of the Constitution, a testament to the foundational principles that guide India's democracy.

The event was graced by a notable gathering of dignitaries, including Chamaraja MLA Harish Gowda, K.R. Nagar MLA D. Ravishankar, MLC D. Thimmaiah, MUDA chairman K. Marigowda, Vice-Chairperson of the State Government's Guarantees Implementation Committee Pushpa Amarnath, Principal District and Sessions Judge Ravindra Hegde, Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru Lakshmikant Reddy, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.M. Gayathri, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, and Superintendent of Mysuru district police Vishnuvardhan.

In a gesture that further emphasized the interconnectedness of human well-being and environmental sustainability, the Forest Department planted 1,150 saplings of various tree species along the route of the human chain. These saplings, distributed among students, officials, and members of the public, were intended to symbolize the growth and flourishing of the community and the environment. In addition to this, approximately 500 saplings were planted in three parks within Mysuru city, and another 2,615 saplings were planted across 65 schools in the Mysuru district, further contributing to the environmental enrichment of the region.
