The death of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in a precision strike by the Israeli Defence Forces has sent shockwaves through the region. Satellite images obtained by India Today's OSINT team reveal the extent of the damage inflicted by the Israeli airstrikes on the group's central command headquarters in Beirut's southern suburbs. The images show two buildings reduced to rubble, highlighting the intensity of the attack.
The Israeli military claimed responsibility for Nasrallah's death, stating that the strike was a necessary step to change the balance of power in the region. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu characterized Nasrallah as a terrorist and emphasized the significance of the strike in dismantling Hezbollah's power structure and pushing the group away from Israel's borders. This incident comes amidst ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7, 2023.
Hezbollah, however, has vowed to continue its fight against Israel, stating that its battle is in support of Gaza and Palestine and in defense of Lebanon. The organization, under Nasrallah's leadership for over three decades, has evolved into a powerful political-militant force in the region. His death marks a significant blow to the group, but it remains to be seen how the organization will adapt to the loss of its leader and whether this strike will indeed weaken their influence.
