The South Central Railway (SCR) has been significantly impacted by heavy rains, leading to disruptions in train services across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The SCR announced the cancellation of 80 trains completely and six partially due to the severe weather conditions. Additionally, 84 trains were diverted to alternative routes, causing inconvenience to numerous passengers. The heavy rainfall has resulted in flooding of railway tracks in various locations, including the Kesamudram-Intekanne and Tadla Pusapalli-Mahabubabad sections, as well as the Rayanapdu railway station.
The SCR has mobilized its entire machinery to undertake repair and rehabilitation works on the affected tracks. General Manager Arun Kumar Jain has been actively interacting with divisional managers to assess the situation and coordinate efforts with the state governments. The SCR has also taken steps to provide support to stranded passengers. Food is being distributed through platform catering stalls, and the railway authorities have sought assistance from local voluntary organizations to help those affected by the disruptions.
The impact of the cancellations and diversions has been substantial, with several trains experiencing delays and passengers facing difficulties. For example, the Sangamithra Express (trains 12295 and 12296), bound for Danapur and Bengaluru respectively, were halted at Kesamudram station. Passengers on the Charminar Express (train 12760), bound for Chennai, were transported from Kondapalli to Vijayawada using RTC buses, and arrangements are being made to transport them to their final destination. The SCR has also established additional enquiry counters and help desks at major stations, deploying senior officers to assist stranded passengers. Refunds are being provided for cancelled trains.
The heavy rains have caused significant disruptions to train services in the South Central Railway, leading to cancellations, diversions, and delays. The SCR is actively working to restore train operations and assist affected passengers. However, the extent of the damage and the duration of the disruptions remain uncertain as the rains continue in the region.
