The highly anticipated action thriller, 'GOAT' (The Greatest Of All Time), starring the celebrated South Indian actor 'Thalapathy' Vijay in dual roles, has enjoyed a strong opening but experienced a noticeable decline in its box office collections on its second day of release. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film, produced and distributed by AGS Entertainment, had a global gross of over Rs 126.32 crore on its debut day, Thursday. While this initial performance was encouraging, day two figures indicate a considerable drop in earnings.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film's India nett collection on its opening day amounted to Rs 44 crore, with the Tamil version alone contributing Rs 39.15 crore. The Telugu and Hindi versions added Rs 3 crore and Rs 1.85 crore respectively. However, by 6 pm on Friday, the second day of release, the film had only collected Rs 13.89 crore, indicating a significant decrease. The occupancy rate in the Tamil market stood at 50.57 per cent, with morning shows at 45.99 per cent and afternoon screenings at 55.14 per cent. While Chennai maintained a high occupancy rate of 82 per cent, other key cities like Bengaluru, Kochi, Mumbai, and the National Capital Region saw significantly lower figures. This decline is attributed to a combination of mixed reviews and the film's release on a weekday.
Despite the dip in day two earnings, the film is expected to see an increase in footfall over the weekend, potentially pushing up the overall box office collection. Typically, weekend screenings see a surge in attendance for most films, and 'GOAT', with its star-studded cast and action-packed storyline, is expected to benefit from this trend. It remains to be seen if the film can recover its initial momentum and achieve the anticipated box office success.
