Mayank Garg, Akshat’s brother, expressed deep frustration with the police response, stating that they were not contacted after the accident and that their investigation officer is unresponsive. Mayank highlighted the discrepancy in how similar cases are handled, noting that drivers without a license typically receive a challan (fine) and a case is filed, but in this case, with a fatal accident, the police didn’t even ask for the accused’s license. He questioned the lack of urgency and the potential for the accused to flee.
The police, on their part, have announced that legal action has begun and a case has been registered. They have also confirmed that a blood sample was taken from the accused to test for alcohol. While they have not ruled out the possibility of further action based on the blood test results, their initial investigation has been criticized for its lack of thoroughness and speed. The accused’s statement that he was driving on the wrong side to save time is further compounded by the fact that Gurugram Police issued over 16,000 tickets for wrong-side driving last month.
