On Wednesday, Delhi and several northern Indian states experienced mild tremors following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Pakistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 25 kilometers southwest of Karor, at a depth of 33 kilometers. The tremors were felt in major Pakistani cities, including Islamabad and Lahore, as well as in neighboring Afghanistan.
Residents in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir reported feeling the tremors. This earthquake marks the second instance of seismic activity affecting Delhi and its surrounding regions in just two weeks. A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Afghanistan on August 29, with a depth of 255 kilometers, also resulting in tremors being felt in Delhi and nearby areas.
Delhi's geographical location, situated near the Himalayas, places it in a seismically active zone, making it vulnerable to earthquakes. This vulnerability is due to the region's proximity to the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which causes significant seismic activity.
