The affluent neighborhood of Greater Kailash in South Delhi was shaken by a chilling murder that unfolded on Thursday night. A man was shot dead outside a gym, raising serious concerns about the security of the posh area. The incident, believed to be a fallout of a gang war, has left residents demanding better security arrangements.
The shooter, reportedly targeting Nadir Shah, fired 11 bullets at him, eight of which hit him, killing him on the spot. The incident was caught on CCTV footage, showing the attacker, dressed in a checked shirt, approaching Nadir Shah and firing indiscriminately before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Local Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) expressed alarm, highlighting the unprecedented nature of such a violent incident in Greater Kailash. They noted the shift in gang activity from the outskirts of Delhi to the city center, highlighting the need for a comprehensive strategy to address the growing threat.
Residents criticized the lack of adequate police presence in the area, claiming that local police stations are chronically understaffed and operate at nearly half capacity. They expressed frustration over the lack of responsiveness from senior police officials despite repeated complaints and petitions.
The murder has sparked a heated debate on the security of ordinary citizens amidst the focus on VIP security. Residents demanded that the police commissioner address the vulnerabilities exposed by the incident and ensure adequate resources are allocated to protect citizens.
The police suspect the attack was linked to an ongoing gang war in the area, with Rohit Godara, a close aide of Goldy Brar from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claiming responsibility for the shooting. Godara, currently hiding in the US, operates his gang from abroad.
