The Delhi Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, has made a significant move in bolstering the city's prison system by approving the creation of over 3,200 new posts within the Delhi prisons department. This decision, announced on Thursday, aims to address the existing staffing shortages and ensure adequate personnel to manage the growing needs of the prison system in the future.

The newly approved posts encompass a wide range of roles, from high-ranking positions like superintendent and deputy superintendent, to more junior positions such as assistant superintendent, head warder, head matron, warder, section officer, accounts officer, assistants, and drivers. This comprehensive approach seeks to fill critical gaps across various levels of the department, ensuring a well-rounded and functional workforce.

The creation of these new positions is not solely focused on addressing immediate staffing needs but also encompasses a strategic restructuring of the prison cadre. The Lt. Governor has instructed that timely promotion of staff be ensured, recognizing the importance of career progression in motivating and retaining dedicated personnel. This focus on staff development and advancement aims to foster a sense of purpose and commitment among prison employees.

The new posts fall under groups A, B, and C, representing different cadres within the prisons department: jail, technical, and ministerial.
