The escalating political feud between the Congress and BJP has taken a new turn with the Himachal Pradesh Congress demanding proof from BJP MP Kangana Ranaut for her allegations against Sonia Gandhi. Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature and controversial statements, had accused the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government of misusing state funds and diverting them to Sonia Gandhi. She made these allegations during a public gathering in Manali, claiming that the state's coffers were emptied by taking disaster loans and channeling the funds to the former Congress president.
Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh, who lost to Ranaut in the Mandi Lok Sabha contest, responded fiercely to her allegations, calling them “foolish” and indicative of the “intellectual bankruptcy” of the Mandi MP. He challenged Ranaut to provide evidence for her claims, stating that the Congress would file a defamation case against her if she fails to do so. He dismissed her allegations as baseless and unwarranted, emphasizing the absurdity of the claim that funds meant for development were being diverted to Sonia Gandhi.
Singh suggested that Ranaut's accusations were a result of her frustration over the delayed release of her film “Emergency,” which depicts former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He pointed out that Ranaut rarely visits Himachal Pradesh but has been making baseless statements from her home in Manali, potentially due to her dissatisfaction with the censor board's handling of her film. Ranaut had previously expressed her displeasure with the censor board's delay in clearing “Emergency” for release.
This public spat highlights the growing tension between the two major political parties in India. The Congress's demand for proof and threat of legal action demonstrates their determination to counter Ranaut's allegations and protect their leader's reputation. This incident also sheds light on the increasing use of personal attacks and accusations in Indian politics, blurring the lines between political discourse and personal attacks.
