  • BRS leaders criticized for encouraging defections

The political tension in Telangana continues to escalate as the Congress party accuses the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of attempting to damage Hyderabad's peace and reputation. Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar and TPCC working president T. Jagga Reddy, in a joint press conference, strongly condemned the BRS for what they perceive as a deliberate attempt to sow discord and undermine the city's image. They highlighted the BRS's recent focus on the issue of Andhra settlers, questioning their motives for bringing it up after enjoying power for a decade with the support of this very community.

The Congress leaders accused the BRS of resorting to disruptive tactics as a result of their defeat in the recent Assembly and Parliament elections. They highlighted instances of BRS leaders engaging in provocative actions, including threats against an MLA and making derogatory remarks against elected officials. They accused the BRS of hypocrisy, given their own history of encouraging defections from various political parties during their previous tenure. The Congress leadership highlighted the BRS's inability to stomach a Dalit MLA becoming the Leader of the Opposition and their attempts to destabilize the Congress party.

TPCC working president Jagga Reddy further criticized the BRS for attempting to incite controversy surrounding the defection of MLAs to the Congress, including Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi. He cautioned BRS leaders against criticizing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and warned of retaliation. Jagga Reddy accused BRS leaders of unethical practices, citing their encouragement of defections from the Congress between 2014 and 2018. He questioned the integrity of KCR, the BRS leader, in merging Congress legislators into his party. Jagga Reddy emphasized Revanth Reddy's crucial role in safeguarding the government against the ongoing threats posed by both the BRS and BJP.

The Congress leaders emphasized the need to strengthen the party's grassroots structure to counter the opposition's narrative effectively. They pointed out that the BRS's current actions stemmed from a lack of acceptance of their electoral defeat and their inability to handle the Congress's growing presence. They also criticized the BJP for allegedly attempting to tarnish the ruling party's image by distorting government initiatives, thereby eroding public trust. The Congress, in its efforts to solidify its position, pledged to continue to focus on development and governance, while vigilantly countering any attempts to disrupt the peace and stability of Hyderabad.
