Chandigarh Grenade Blast Case Solved: Perpetrator Arrested
  • Chandigarh grenade attack solved with arrest of perpetrator.
  • Attack masterminded by ISI-backed terrorists Harwinder Singh and Harpreet Singh.
  • Accused Rohan Masih arrested, grenade smuggled from Pakistan via drone.

The recent grenade blast in Chandigarh, targeting the residence of a retired principal, has been resolved with the arrest of the main perpetrator, Rohan Masih. This incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, saw a grenade thrown at the home of KK Malhotra, a 100-year-old former principal from Himachal Pradesh, located at house number 575 in Sector 10. Thankfully, Malhotra and his wife had a narrow escape as they were sitting on the verandah moments before the blast and had gone inside shortly before the incident.

The attack, orchestrated by ISI-backed Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh, alias Rinda of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), and USA-based Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, was carried out by Rohan Masih, who hails from Passia village in Amritsar. The Punjab Police, in a joint operation with central agencies, apprehended Masih and recovered a sophisticated 9mm Glock pistol along with ammunition from his possession. The hand grenade used in the attack was determined to be military-grade equipment smuggled from Pakistan via a drone with the assistance of the ISI.

Further investigation revealed that Rohan had been working in Jammu and Kashmir for the past few years and knew Happy Passia from their shared village. Passia instructed Rohan to carry out the attack, promising him financial rewards. The police have identified the other accused person and are conducting raids to apprehend him. Director General of Police of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, emphasized the Punjab Police's full cooperation with the Chandigarh Police in this case.

This incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by cross-border terrorism and the need for constant vigilance. The successful apprehension of the perpetrator and the ongoing investigation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and protect citizens. The use of drones to smuggle military-grade equipment into India raises concerns about the sophistication of terrorist networks and their ability to exploit emerging technologies. This event serves as a reminder of the need to strengthen security measures and counter the threat posed by cross-border terrorism, particularly in the context of rising technological advancements and the increasing influence of transnational criminal organizations.
