Chandigarh Grenade Attack Linked to ISI, BKI
  • Police arrested Rohan Masih for grenade attack
  • ISI-backed BKI operatives planned the attack
  • Attack targeted a house in Chandigarh's Sector 10

The incident, which occurred on September 11th, involved the throwing of a hand grenade at a house in Chandigarh's Sector 10. The house belonged to KK Malhotra, a retired principal of an institute in Himachal Pradesh. Punjab Police, in a joint operation with central agencies, successfully apprehended Rohan Masih, a resident of Passia village in Amritsar, in connection with the attack.

The investigation revealed that Masih was acting under the direction of Harwinder Singh alias Rinda, a Pakistan-based terrorist affiliated with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), and Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia, based in the United States. The two individuals are suspected of masterminding the operation, with Rinda allegedly receiving support from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

During the arrest, police seized a 9 mm Glock pistol and ammunition from Masih's possession. The investigation revealed that the hand grenade used in the attack was a military-grade device smuggled from across the border through a drone operation facilitated by the ISI. The police have identified another suspect involved in the incident and are conducting raids to apprehend him.

Masih, who had been working in Jammu and Kashmir for several years, confessed to carrying out the attack at the behest of Happy Passia. Passia provided him with the hand grenade, weapons, and financial resources. Police believe the attack was specifically targeted at an individual, as a similar attempt by the same terror group was foiled by Punjab Police last year. The previous attempt involved Bikramjit Singh alias Raja and Bawa Singh, who were apprehended by the police.

This incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by Pakistan-based terrorist organizations and their collaboration with foreign elements to destabilize India. The successful apprehension of Rohan Masih underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between state and central agencies in combating terrorism. The continued investigation aims to dismantle the entire terror network responsible for this attack and prevent future incidents.
