CBI Uncovers Cover-Up in RG Kar Rape-Murder Case
  • CBI finds false records in RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case.
  • Abhijit Mondal, former police station officer, arrested.
  • Sanjay Roy, civic volunteer, arrested as prime suspect.

The investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata has taken a significant turn with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) uncovering a web of deceit and potential criminal conspiracy. The CBI, tasked by the Calcutta High Court to conduct an impartial investigation, has revealed the presence of false records at the Tala Police Station, casting a shadow of doubt on the initial handling of the case by local authorities.

The revelation of false records led to the arrest of Abhijit Mondal, the then officer-in-charge of the Tala Police Station, on charges of tampering with evidence. This arrest underscores the seriousness of the allegations and suggests a deliberate attempt to obstruct the investigation and potentially protect those involved. The CBI's findings also extend to Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the hospital's former chief, who is in custody for alleged financial irregularities, further exposing a potential network of corruption.

The focus of the investigation has shifted to Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, who has been identified as the prime suspect in the doctor's murder. CCTV footage captured Roy entering the room where the doctor's body was found hours before its discovery, placing him at the scene of the crime. The CBI is scrutinizing a potential criminal conspiracy between Mondal, Ghosh, and Roy, highlighting delays in seizing Roy's clothing, a crucial piece of evidence that may have been tampered with.

The investigation has also uncovered a suspicious 14-hour gap between the discovery of the body and the filing of a police report, further raising suspicions of a deliberate attempt to conceal evidence and potentially hinder the investigation. These actions have prompted intense scrutiny of the Bengal government and the local police, with allegations of protecting individuals involved in the crime.

While the CBI continues its investigation, junior doctors who have been protesting for justice and demanding accountability for the tragic death of their colleague have partially resumed essential duties. The ongoing investigation and potential arrests underscore the gravity of the situation and highlight the importance of a transparent and impartial investigation to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
