The Andhra Pradesh government has taken decisive action in the ongoing harassment case involving Bollywood actress Kadambari Jethwani, suspending three senior IPS officers for alleged misconduct and misuse of power. The suspended officers are P. Sitharama Anjaneyulu, former Director General of Police (Intelligence), Kanthi Rana Tata, Vijayawada Police Commissioner, and Vishal Gunni, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The government's decision stems from an inquiry report that uncovered serious irregularities in the handling of the case.
The report revealed that Anjaneyulu directed the arrest of Ms. Jethwani on January 31, 2024, even before the case was registered, and without proper verification. He summoned the officers to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) and instructed them to proceed with the arrest, demonstrating an alarming disregard for due process. Rana, following Anjaneyulu's oral instructions, booked flight tickets for the DCP and other officers to Mumbai before even formally filing the case, further highlighting the questionable nature of their actions. Gunni, who led the team to Mumbai, was also found to have acted prematurely on the complaint against Ms. Jethwani without thorough investigation.
The suspension of these officers, based on the inquiry report submitted by the NTR Police Commissionerate officials, underscores the government's commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability within the police force. By suspending the officers, the government aims to prevent them from influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence, ensuring a fair and impartial investigation. The officers are currently awaiting their posting and have been instructed to remain at their headquarters in Vijayawada until further notice.
