The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India has staged a protest against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's alleged statement regarding reservation for backward classes. The protest, which took place in Prayagraj, saw BJP members burn an effigy of Rahul Gandhi and denounce the Congress party as being against reservation policies. This event highlights the ongoing political tensions surrounding the issue of reservation in India, particularly in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP leaders at the protest claimed that Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to the United States, had expressed views about ending the reservation system for backward classes. This statement, according to the BJP, reveals the true face of the Congress leadership and demonstrates their opposition to the principle of reservation. The BJP asserts that Congress, through its purported stance on reservation, is attempting to undermine the rights and interests of the backward classes in India.
The protest was led by BJP Mahanagar president Rajendra Mishra, who accused the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi, of consistently insulting the OBC community. Mishra further stated that the BJP vehemently opposes Rahul Gandhi's alleged stance on reservation, calling it a product of a flawed mindset. The BJP's OBC cell, under the leadership of Ashwani Patel, also participated in the protest and alleged that the Congress's recent election campaign claims of the BJP ending reservation were false. Patel asserted that the Congress party, in reality, desires the end of reservation for backward classes, but the BJP will never allow such an outcome.
Anand Jaiswal, president of the OBC cell (Mahanagar), also criticized Rahul Gandhi's statement, claiming that it exposed his anti-backward class stance. The protest saw a large number of BJP workers and leaders participating, including Angad Singh Patel, Piyush Jaiswal, Aniket Jaiswal, Abha Singh, Manoj Kushwaha, Nawab Khan, Vivek Mishra, Rajesh Kesarwani, Brij Mohan Singh, Raju Patel, and Dhananjay Patel. This event highlights the significance of reservation as a political issue in India, particularly as the country approaches a crucial election.
