The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following his announcement to resign in two days, questioning the timing of his decision and demanding an immediate election. BJP leaders, including spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi and Delhi state president Virendra Sachdeva, have accused Kejriwal of political maneuvering and corruption, calling for the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly and a public mandate to settle the matter.
Trivedi, in a press conference, questioned the urgency behind Kejriwal's resignation, suggesting it could be a result of internal party conflicts. He further criticized Kejriwal for his recent actions, including celebrating his release from jail with fireworks despite a government ban and comparing himself to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, a comparison that Trivedi deemed disrespectful and tarnishing the image of the national icon.
Sachdeva, in a more detailed attack, accused Kejriwal of misleading the public with false promises and indulging in corrupt practices. He cited several alleged failures of the Kejriwal government, including mismanagement of sewage leading to child deaths, increased electricity bills, water shortages despite promises of free water, and a surge in private water tankers. He also alleged that the health sector has collapsed under Kejriwal's leadership, pointing to non-functional government ICUs, delays in appointments, and the distribution of fake medicines.
Sachdeva further accused Kejriwal of turning the education sector into a business, highlighting alleged failures in the so-called 'education revolution'. He questioned the timing of the cancellation of the alcohol policy investigation and accused Kejriwal of opening liquor shops near religious sites. He also criticized Kejriwal's handling of public services, highlighting the deterioration of Delhi's infrastructure and accusing him of corruption related to the Sewage Treatment Plant project and the women's safety panic button.
Kejriwal, in a defiant response, announced his willingness to accept the chief minister's post only if people certify his honesty in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. He challenged the BJP to hold the elections in November, months ahead of the scheduled date, demanding a public trial of his innocence.
