Bangladesh Fan Deported After False Assault Claim
  • Bangladesh cricket fan deported from India
  • Fan initially claimed assault, later retracted
  • Deportation linked to medical visa status

The recent deportation of Bangladeshi cricket fan ‘Tiger Robi’ from India has sparked controversy, highlighting a series of events that unfolded during his visit. Robi, known for his passionate support of the Bangladesh cricket team, initially claimed he was assaulted during the India-Bangladesh Test match in Kanpur. However, he later retracted this statement, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.

Robi, whose real name is Rabiul Islam, arrived in India on September 18th on a medical visa to receive treatment at a hospital in Howrah, West Bengal. Despite his medical condition, he travelled to Chennai and Kanpur to support his national team during their ongoing Test series. This decision, which prioritized his passion for cricket over his health, raised questions about his adherence to the terms of his visa.

During the Kanpur match, Robi’s enthusiasm for the game, coupled with his fragile health, appeared to have taken a toll. He reportedly collapsed due to exhaustion and was found gasping for breath by local authorities. This incident led to him being rushed to Regency Hospital for treatment. Earlier that day, Robi had told the media that he was punched during an altercation at the stadium, attributing his illness to this event. However, from his hospital bed, he later retracted this claim, stating that he had simply fallen ill and received medical assistance from the police.

Following his discharge from the hospital, Robi was escorted by police to Chakeri Airport and placed on a flight to Delhi. From there, he boarded another flight to Dhaka, his home country. Authorities confirmed that Robi was not permitted to leave the airport in Delhi and was sent directly back to Bangladesh. While the specifics of his travel arrangements on a medical visa remain unclear, it is confirmed that his deportation was facilitated at his own request. The situation raises questions about how Robi was able to travel to the matches despite holding a medical visa and the reasons behind his deportation.

The incident sheds light on the complexities of international travel and the responsibilities associated with obtaining a medical visa. It also underscores the importance of clarity and transparency in such situations. While Robi’s passion for cricket is commendable, his actions highlighted the potential consequences of prioritizing personal interests over the terms of a medical visa.
