Ayush Badoni, a young Indian batter, is making waves with his explosive hitting abilities. Currently captaining South Delhi Superstarz in the ongoing Delhi Premier League, Badoni recently put on a breathtaking display of power hitting against North Delhi Strikers. In a remarkable feat, he blasted a 39-ball century, peppering the field with 29 boundaries - 10 fours and 19 sixes. This performance further solidified his reputation as a formidable batsman capable of decimating bowling attacks.
Badoni, who represents Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has already garnered significant attention for his attacking style. Since his IPL debut in 2022, he has played 42 matches, amassing 634 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 134.04. His explosive batting has not gone unnoticed, and he has earned praise from seasoned cricket veterans.
LSG fielding coach, the legendary Jonty Rhodes, has been particularly impressed by Badoni's talent. Rhodes attributes Badoni's ability to effortlessly dispatch good-length deliveries to his short stature and low centre of gravity. "He (Badoni) is a precocious talent that is for sure, he is short so he has got a low centre of gravity," Rhodes said. "He gets under the good length deliveries he can hit it anywhere around the ground, he has such fast hands. Justin Langer was so impressed with the sheer talent that he has."
Rhodes went on to draw a compelling comparison between Badoni and the legendary South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs, known for his own big-hitting prowess. "He reminds me a bit of Herschelle Gibbs," Rhodes said. "He has tremendous hitting ability and when he matches that with calmness, presence of mind, good game plan, he will become a really tough guy to bowl to because he can play both conventional and unconventional shots with ease."
In his recent innings against North Delhi Strikers, Badoni showcased his explosive capabilities, scoring an impressive 165 runs off just 55 balls. His team, South Delhi Superstarz, amassed a formidable total of 308/5 in their 20 overs. Badoni himself attributed his success to his focus on timing the ball rather than hitting it hard. "I was just looking to time the ball well, I never thought I would end up hitting 19 sixes in an innings. I just focus on timing the ball and not trying to hit the ball hard," he explained.
Ayush Badoni's meteoric rise in the cricketing world is a testament to his raw talent and dedication. With his exceptional hitting ability and a calm demeanor, he has the potential to become a major force in the world of cricket. The comparisons to Herschelle Gibbs further highlight his immense potential and the exciting future that lies ahead for this young, rising star.
