Atishi, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was sworn in as the sixth Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday evening. The ceremony took place at the Raj Niwas, where Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena administered the oath of office. This marks a significant shift in Delhi's political landscape, as Atishi becomes the third woman to hold the position after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

Following the swearing-in, the BJP, the main opposition party in Delhi, extended its congratulations to Atishi but also took the opportunity to criticize the AAP's leadership under Arvind Kejriwal. Harsh Malhotra, a BJP leader, urged Atishi to address the pressing issues that have plagued Delhi during Kejriwal's decade-long tenure, particularly emphasizing corruption and the need for improved infrastructure. Malhotra highlighted Atishi's previous role as PWD Minister and pointed to the persistent problems of uncleaned sewage and widespread waterlogging in the city, urging her to take decisive action to resolve these issues. He also criticized Atishi's past support for Afzal Guru, questioning the appropriateness of such support.

Atishi's rise to the Chief Ministership comes at a crucial juncture for the AAP. The party is already in its fourth year of power in Delhi and Atishi will lead the government for the remaining term until Assembly elections are due in February. She will be facing numerous challenges as she takes the reins, including addressing the long-standing issues of infrastructure, corruption, and public services. The BJP's criticism further highlights the political battle that Atishi will be engaged in as she seeks to maintain the AAP's grip on power in Delhi. Her ability to deliver on the promises of good governance and development will be critical in the coming months leading up to the elections.

The change in leadership also raises questions about the future of the AAP. Kejriwal, who resigned as Chief Minister after Atishi staked her claim to the post, remains the National Convener of the party. His future role and influence within the party remain unclear, and the relationship between him and Atishi will be crucial in determining the AAP's direction going forward.
