  • UIDAI extends free Aadhaar update scheme till Dec 14, 2024.
  • Users can update documents and profile on myAadhaar portal.
  • The scheme allows free updates for an additional three months.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended its free Aadhaar update scheme, granting users the opportunity to update their documents and profile changes on the myAadhaar portal without incurring any fees. This extension, which was originally set to end on September 14th, has been extended to December 14th, 2024, providing users with an additional three months to take advantage of this free service. The UIDAI, through a post on social media platform X, announced the extension, highlighting its aim to benefit millions of Aadhaar number holders. This initiative serves as a reminder for individuals to keep their Aadhaar documents updated, especially those who haven't updated their cards in over a decade. They are encouraged to review and amend their information if necessary, ensuring the accuracy and validity of their Aadhaar details.

The free Aadhaar update scheme provides a convenient and cost-effective way for individuals to maintain accurate and up-to-date information linked to their Aadhaar number. The process involves submitting necessary documents, such as ration card, voter ID, domicile certificate, passport, and passbook, through the MyAadhaar Portal or at any Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. For online submissions, users can simply log in using their Aadhaar number and a one-time password received on their registered mobile number. Notably, even non-resident Indians (NRIs) can avail this facility, submitting their documents while in India, through the online mode, or by visiting an Aadhaar Centre. This accessibility ensures that all Indian citizens, regardless of their location, have the opportunity to update their Aadhaar information effortlessly.

The UIDAI emphasizes the significance of Aadhaar as a unique identifier for each citizen of India, playing a crucial role in identifying and eliminating fake or ghost identities. This system safeguards against potential leakages and ensures the integrity of the national identity database. Encouraging citizens to update their documents in Aadhaar at least once in 10 years is a proactive measure towards maintaining a reliable and secure identity management system. Moreover, the UIDAI highlights the importance of updating Aadhaar information for newborn children, stating that their biometrics must be updated between 5 and 15 years. This ensures that the Aadhaar database accurately reflects the evolving identities of individuals throughout their lives.
