Zaheer Khan Mentors Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2025
  • Zaheer Khan joins Lucknow Super Giants as mentor.
  • He replaces Gautam Gambhir, who rejoined KKR.
  • KL Rahul's future with LSG remains uncertain.

The Lucknow Super Giants have made a significant addition to their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 season, bringing in former Indian pacer and World Cup winner Zaheer Khan as their new mentor. This appointment comes after the departure of Gautam Gambhir, who left his role as head coach to rejoin his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), before the 2024 season. Zaheer's appointment marks a new era for LSG, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise from both his playing days and his subsequent managerial roles.

Zaheer is no stranger to the IPL, having participated in the tournament as a player for three different teams – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils. He later transitioned into a management role with the Mumbai Indians, serving as director of cricket from 2018 to 2022, and subsequently as head of global development. This experience has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the IPL's dynamics and a valuable perspective on team building and player development.

Joining Zaheer on the LSG coaching staff are head coach Justin Langer, who is expected to continue in his role, and assistant coaches Lance Klusener and Adam Voges. Together, this formidable coaching team will strive to guide the Super Giants to even greater heights in the upcoming season. Zaheer, brimming with enthusiasm, expressed his commitment to the team's success at a press conference in Kolkata, stating, “I will make sure that the process that is required to LSG the next level is there. The next season is going to be a special one.”

However, a cloud of uncertainty hangs over the future of KL Rahul, a key player for the Super Giants. Reports from Cricbuzz suggest that Rahul met with LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka in Kolkata to discuss the team's composition for the upcoming season and his potential retention. While the meeting could indicate a positive outcome, Goenka remained tight-lipped about Rahul's future at the press conference, stating, “I don’t want to comment on speculation. All I will say is that KL Rahul is family. KL Rahul is an important and integral part of the Supergiants family.” This statement leaves the fate of Rahul's place in the team open to speculation, adding another layer of intrigue to the upcoming IPL season.
