Two BJP leaders quit over J&K poll picks
  • BJP leaders resigned over candidate choices
  • Samba district chief protested Salathia's selection
  • BJYM Jammu chief objected to Sethi's nomination

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced a wave of dissent in Jammu and Kashmir as two prominent party leaders resigned in protest against the selection of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. The resignations, fueled by accusations of questionable choices and the overlooking of deserving members, highlighted the internal turmoil within the party, particularly in the Jammu region.

Kashmira Singh, the BJP's Samba district chief, submitted her resignation letter to state BJP president Ravinder Raina, citing her strong disapproval of the party's decision to field former National Conference minister Surjit Singh Salathia from the Samba constituency. Singh, a long-time party member with a 42-year history of service to the BJP, expressed her disappointment in a poignant letter, stating that she had joined the BJP inspired by the ideology of Syama Prasad Mukherjee, but the party's recent actions seemed to align with the ideology of Sheikh Abdullah, a political stance she could no longer support.

Meanwhile, Kanav Sharma, the BJP's Jammu district chief of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), resigned in protest against the party's decision to nominate Yudhvir Sethi for the Jammu East seat. Sharma, citing his strong moral convictions, asserted that his conscience did not allow him to endorse individuals with questionable character. He specifically pointed to Sethi's alleged history of corrupt practices, particularly during his wife Priya Sethi's tenure as education minister.

The resignations of these two prominent BJP leaders have sent shockwaves through the party's ranks, underscoring the simmering discontent within the organization. While the BJP leadership is yet to respond officially to these resignations, the party is undoubtedly facing a challenging situation in Jammu and Kashmir as it navigates internal conflicts amidst its preparations for the upcoming elections.
