The highly anticipated sequel to the popular horror-comedy film 'Stree', titled 'Stree 2', has witnessed a significant decline in its box office collections despite the partial holiday boost due to Janmashtami in India. Despite this drop, the film starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao has still managed to garner impressive numbers, setting its sights firmly on reaching the coveted Rs 500 crore mark at the domestic box office.
In its first week of release, 'Stree 2' earned a total of Rs 307.80 crore in India. The film continued to draw audiences in its second week, bringing in Rs 19.30 crore on Friday, Rs 33.80 crore on Saturday, Rs 40.75 crore on Sunday, and Rs 20.20 crore on Monday. As of its second Monday, the film's total India box office collection stands at Rs 421.85 crore.
According to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'Stree 2' is poised to surpass the Rs 500 crore mark thanks to the lack of significant competition in the theatrical market. The only other releases scheduled for September are Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency', Sidhant Chaturvedi's 'Yudhra', and Kareena Kapoor Khan's 'The Buckingham Murders'. This absence of competition is expected to solidify 'Stree 2's dominance at the box office, especially in mass-market regions.
Globally, 'Stree 2' has earned a gross box office collection of Rs 589 crore. The film has generated Rs 498 crore from India and Rs 91 crore from overseas markets, according to production house Maddock Films.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, 'Stree 2' follows the story of Vicky and his group of friends as they endeavor to liberate the town of Chanderi from the terror of Sarkata. The film features a stellar cast, including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. The film also features special appearances by Akshay Kumar, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Varun Dhawan.
The film is the sequel to the 2018 hit 'Stree' and is a part of the Maddock Supernatural Universe. This universe encompasses other films like 'Roohi' (2021), 'Bhediya' (2022), and 'Munjya' (2024). 'Stree 2' continues to capitalize on the success of its predecessor, drawing in audiences with its blend of humor and horror.
