The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the final seat matrix for the first round of NEET UG counselling for the academic year 2024. This crucial announcement affects aspiring medical professionals seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, and other undergraduate medical courses across India. The seat matrix details the availability of seats in various institutions, categorized by reservation quotas and course specializations.
Candidates who have been reclassified from Indian to NRI status after document scrutiny by the MCC must present their original documents at the time of reporting if they are allocated an NRI seat. Failure to do so may lead to cancellation of their admission. This shift in category emphasizes the importance of verifying documents and complying with all the specified guidelines for a successful admission process.
The first round of NEET UG counselling commenced on August 16, 2024, with the choice-filling process allowing candidates to express their preferences for specific colleges and courses. Candidates have until August 20, 2024, at 11:55 pm to fill out and lock their preference forms on the MCC's official website, mcc.nic.in. This window allows ample time for candidates to carefully consider their choices and prioritize their desired institutions based on their NEET scores and academic preferences. The MCC will use this information to allocate seats based on merit and candidate choices. It's crucial for candidates to rank their preferred institutions in order of preference, as this ranking will determine the final seat allocation.
The seat allocation process will take place from August 21 to 22, 2024, with the results being announced on August 23. Candidates selected for a seat must report to their allocated institution and complete the admission formalities between August 24 and August 29. The institutions will then verify the data of all joined applicants from August 30 to August 31. This phased process ensures a smooth transition for admitted students, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the academic environment and prepare for the commencement of their medical studies.
This year, the MCC NEET UG counselling for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats will be conducted in four stages: AIQ Round 1 (just concluded), Round 2, Round 3, and an online stray vacancy round. The registration period for the second round of counselling will start on September 5, 2024, and will end on September 10, 2024, at 12 pm. This multi-round approach allows candidates to revise their preferences and potentially secure a seat in a more desirable institution based on their performance and the availability of seats in subsequent rounds.
