On Saturday, a prominent mall in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, was evacuated after receiving a bomb threat. The threat, which was delivered via email, stated that bombs had been planted within the building, posing a grave danger to all occupants. The message, riddled with grammatical errors, declared, "Hello there, I planted bombs in the building every person inside the building will be kill (sic)." The email arrived at approximately 11:59 AM, prompting immediate action from mall authorities.
Following the receipt of the threatening email, the InOrbit mall was swiftly evacuated. A multi-agency response was mobilized, bringing together the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Fire Brigade, and local police officers. A thorough search operation was initiated, involving the deployment of a canine squad to sniff out any potential explosives. Despite the exhaustive search, no suspicious objects or devices were discovered.
The search operation concluded at approximately 2:50 PM, after which the mall was deemed safe and reopened to the public at around 3 PM. While the immediate threat had been neutralized, the incident served as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of public spaces to security threats. The police are actively investigating the source of the email and working diligently to identify the sender. This incident highlights the crucial role of vigilant security measures in protecting public safety, while also underscoring the need for heightened awareness and quick response mechanisms to deal with potential threats.
