The demolition of actor Nagarjuna Akkineni's N-Convention center in Hyderabad has sparked controversy, with the actor vehemently denying any encroachment on public land. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection agency (HYDRAA) razed the convention center on August 24, prompting Nagarjuna to seek a stay order from the High Court, which he successfully obtained that same evening. Nagarjuna has since publicly defended his actions, maintaining that the demolition was 'unlawful' and fueled by 'exaggerated' rumors.
Nagarjuna's stance hinges on the assertion that the N-Convention was built on legally acquired land. He explicitly states that the land is 'Patta Documented' and denies any encroachment. Furthermore, he cites a 2014 judgement from the Special court of AP Land Grabbing (prohibition) Act, which concluded that the N-Convention did not encroach on the nearby Tummidikunta Lake. This judgment, according to Nagarjuna, serves as evidence to dispel rumors of encroachment.
Despite Nagarjuna's claims, HYDRAA maintains that the demolition was justified due to unchecked encroachments in the surrounding area, including the N-Convention. They contend that these encroachments have contributed to severe waterlogging issues in the Madhapur and HiTex regions. They further allege that the N-Convention operated within unauthorised structures built in the FTL and buffer zones, thereby manipulating systems and processes. This ongoing dispute highlights the complex interplay between development, legal regulations, and public perception, particularly when prominent figures like Nagarjuna are involved.
