Kolkata Rape Case: Accused Demands Chowmein, CBI Questions Principal
  • Rape and murder accused Sanjay Roy demanded egg chowmein in jail.
  • CBI investigates RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case.
  • Former principal Sandeep Ghosh questioned for 140 hours by CBI.

The case of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital continues to unfold with new details emerging about the accused and the ongoing investigation. Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect currently incarcerated at the Presidency Correctional Home, has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the prison's meal plan, demanding egg chowmein instead of the standard 'roti-sabzi' fare. While his request was denied due to prison regulations requiring all inmates to eat the same food, Roy's outburst highlights the psychological state of an individual facing serious accusations. Despite initial requests for sleep and mumbled speech, he seems to have returned to a more normal state.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is diligently pursuing the case. Their investigation has led them back to Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, who has been summoned for questioning on 14 consecutive days. The agency has already spent over 140 hours interrogating Ghosh, delving into the circumstances surrounding the trainee doctor's tragic death. This investigation goes beyond the rape and murder case, extending to a financial scam alleged to have occurred within the hospital. The CBI has filed an FIR against Ghosh and other institutions in connection with this financial impropriety.

The horrific crime that took place within the hospital's seminar hall on August 9th has sparked widespread outrage and protests. The discovery of the doctor's body with severe injuries brought the tragedy to light, leading to Roy's arrest the following day. The Calcutta High Court, recognizing the gravity of the situation, ordered the transfer of the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the CBI on August 13th, marking the start of the CBI's comprehensive investigation on August 14th. As the CBI continues its exhaustive questioning of Ghosh and investigates both the rape and murder as well as the financial scam, the community anxiously awaits further developments in this case that has shaken the city of Kolkata.
