Kolkata Police Denies Bed Sheet Color Change in Doctor Murder Case
  • Kolkata Police refutes claims of bedsheet color change in doctor's murder case.
  • Deputy Commissioner states evidence was handed over to the CBI.
  • Controversy sparked by conflicting accounts of bedsheet color by witnesses.

The ongoing investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata has been marred by controversy surrounding the color of the bedsheet used to cover the victim's body. Kolkata Police has vehemently denied allegations that the bedsheet was changed during the investigation, calling them baseless. The controversy arose after various reports and news channels claimed that the bedsheet's color mysteriously shifted from blue to green.

Indira Mukherjee, Deputy Commissioner of the Central Division, Kolkata Police, addressed the allegations directly. She stated that the police initiated photography and videography sessions at 12:25 pm on the day of the incident, capturing the scene in phases, including the seizure process, inquest, and arrival of the forensic team. Mukherjee asserted that the available records conclusively demonstrate the bedsheet was blue throughout the investigation. She further stressed that the police had provided all collected data to the CBI.

The controversy stems from conflicting statements regarding the bedsheet's color provided by witnesses. Junior doctors at the RG Kar Medical College claimed they saw a blue sheet covering the body, while the victim's parents alleged they observed a green sheet when they viewed their daughter's body later that day. The victim's father, during a television interview, accused the police and hospital authorities of tampering with evidence, alleging that the body's position and the sheet's color had been altered.

The case was transferred to the CBI after allegations of evidence tampering and ineffective investigation by the Kolkata Police. The transfer followed an order from the Calcutta High Court. The doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9th, with severe injuries. The incident occurred while she was on a night shift and had gone to rest in the hall.

The public is eager for a thorough investigation and for justice to be served in this horrific case. The conflicting accounts and accusations of evidence tampering have added further complexity and scrutiny to the case. The CBI's investigation is now tasked with not only uncovering the truth behind the doctor's murder but also addressing the concerns surrounding the integrity of the initial investigation. The outcome of the CBI investigation will be crucial in determining the course of justice in this tragic case.
