  • State has recorded 111% of seasonal average rainfall, with Kutch leading at 177%.

Gujarat, a state situated on the western coast of India, has been experiencing heavy rainfall this monsoon season. While the intensity of rainfall has decreased over the past two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for strong winds and more rain in certain regions. This forecast specifically targets Kutch, Morbi, Jamnagar, and Devbhoomi Dwarka.

The IMD's prediction comes as a result of the recent weather patterns observed in Gujarat. Mandvi taluka in Kutch received the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, with over 15 inches recorded. Other areas, such as the Kutch district and Devbhoomi Dwarka district, also experienced significant rainfall, averaging over 4 inches and 2 inches respectively. The remaining districts reported less than an inch of rainfall.

In terms of cumulative rainfall for the monsoon season, Gujarat has recorded a total average rainfall of 111% as of August 30th. This surpasses the expected seasonal average. Kutch zone has received the highest rainfall with over 177%, followed by Saurashtra zone with over 124% and southern Gujarat with over 111%. East-central Gujarat has received more than 105%, while north Gujarat has recorded 87% of the seasonal average rainfall.

The heavy rains have led to various challenges, including the displacement of people. The state government records indicate that 50,385 people have been shifted to safe locations across the state, and 4,225 individuals have been rescued during the monsoon season as of Friday. While the rainfall intensity has lessened, authorities are urging caution due to the potential for heavy winds and further rainfall.
