Delhi Court Blocks Rau's IAS Center Reopening

Delhi Court Blocks Rau's IAS Center Reopening
  • Court denies reopening of Rau's IAS Study Circle.
  • CBI probes basement use, SUV in drowning case.
  • Co-owners seek bail, claiming no role in tragedy.

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has delivered a blow to Rau's IAS Study Circle, denying a petition to resume classes at the coaching center where three aspiring civil servants tragically drowned in a flooded basement on July 27. The petition, filed by Abhishek Gupta, the CEO of the coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar, aimed to secure access to the building and restart operations. However, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), currently investigating the case, strongly opposed the plea, highlighting the alleged misuse of the basement as a library when it was designated for storage purposes.

The court's decision comes as the CBI continues its probe into the incident. In a related development, the Rouse Avenue Court also granted the CBI additional time to complete its investigation into a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) involved in the case. This SUV, currently in the possession of the probe agency, is subject to inspection by experts from IIT-Delhi and a Motor Vehicle Inspector. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for September 4.

Meanwhile, the co-owners of the basement where the tragic event occurred have filed a bail application in the Delhi High Court. They maintain that they are merely landlords who leased the basement to the coaching center and played no part in the drowning incident. This plea, however, faces a difficult hurdle as a sessions court previously rejected bail applications filed by these co-owners, citing the ongoing CBI probe and the need to ascertain their specific roles in the case. The next hearing on this matter is expected later this week.

This incident has sparked widespread outrage and scrutiny, highlighting the need for stricter safety regulations and oversight in educational institutions. The court's decision, while denying the immediate reopening of the coaching center, underscores the gravity of the situation and the ongoing investigation's importance in uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable.
