Zimbabwe Coach Praises Shubman Gill, Calls Him 'Superb Cricketer'
  • Zimbabwe coach Justin Sammons praised India's Shubman Gill as a superb cricketer.
  • Sammons commended Gill's work ethic and professionalism, citing his performance in the nets.
  • He also lauded Riyan Parag's IPL performance, calling him a dangerous player for India.

Zimbabwe head coach Justin Sammons expressed his admiration for Indian batsman Shubman Gill, describing him as a 'superb cricketer' ahead of the first T20I match against India at the Harare Sports Club.

Sammons recalled his first encounter with Gill during a Test series between India and South Africa in December 2021, noting Gill's impressive work ethic and professionalism despite not getting any game time.

He emphasized that Gill's dedication and meticulous approach during net sessions were particularly noteworthy, hinting at his future potential.

Sammons's praise for Gill's abilities is well-founded, considering Gill's impressive T20I record. He has participated in 14 matches for India in this format, accumulating 335 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 147.58.

The upcoming T20I series presents an exciting opportunity for India's younger players to prove their worth in the shortest format of cricket, especially in the absence of veterans Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who have all retired from T20Is.

Sammons also directed praise towards Riyan Parag, another young Indian talent, whom he considers a 'dangerous' player. He acknowledged Parag's successful stint in the IPL, highlighting his impressive performance in the T20 tournament. He believes Parag's presence in the team poses a significant challenge for Zimbabwe's bowlers.

The first match of the T20I series is scheduled for Saturday at the Harare Sports Club, promising an intense and competitive encounter between India and Zimbabwe.
