US Citizen Found Chained in Indian Forest
  • US citizen found chained in India's Sindhudurg forest.
  • Police investigating how she arrived and who chained her.
  • Woman claims her husband tied her and left her there.

A disturbing discovery in India's Sindhudurg forest has sparked a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding a 50-year-old US citizen found chained to a tree. The woman, identified as Lalita Kai, was discovered by a local villager who had taken his sheep and cows into the forested area. The villager immediately alerted the Banda police, who arrived at the scene and rescued the woman. Lalita's bag, containing her identification documents including a photocopy of her US passport and Aadhar card, as well as a raincoat and foodstuff, was found with her.

The police have launched a thorough investigation to determine how Lalita ended up in the forest and who chained her to the tree. While hospitalized, Lalita wrote a note detailing her account of the events, claiming that her husband had chained her to the tree and left her without food or water for 40 days. She stated she suffered from “extreme psychosis” due to an injection and was unable to drink water, relying on intravenous food. However, police officers expressed skepticism about the 40-day claim, citing the lack of physical injury marks. They are currently verifying Lalita's story, including the address listed on her Aadhar card, and investigating the whereabouts of her alleged husband.

Lalita's weakened state due to starvation and dehydration prevented her from providing a verbal statement. She was transferred to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) in Goa for further medical evaluation. Despite being stable, she is currently unable to communicate verbally, relying on writing. The Maharashtra police are continuing their investigation into this complex case, focusing on determining the truth behind Lalita's account and identifying the individual responsible for her predicament.
