Mumbai experienced a deluge of rain on Saturday, with several parts of the city receiving over 100mm of rainfall between 8am and 6pm. The heaviest downpour was recorded in Sewri Koliwada, where 114.20mm of rain fell. Other areas that witnessed significant rainfall include Lower Parel (112.20mm), Wadala (104.40mm), Govandi (110mm), and Mankhurd (104.6mm). On average, the city received 63.56mm of rain during this period, while the eastern suburbs received 49.68mm and the western suburbs 38.18mm.

In the 24 hours between 8:30am on Friday and Saturday, Colaba recorded 111mm of rain, while Santacruz received 79mm. The average rainfall for the city during this period was 90.56mm, with the eastern suburbs receiving 87.14mm and the western suburbs receiving 92.81mm.

The heavy rainfall had a positive impact on the city's water reserves, with Tulsi Lake, the smallest of the lakes supplying water to Mumbai, reaching its capacity of 8046 million litres and overflowing at 8:30am on Saturday. This marked the second consecutive year that the lake overflowed on the same date. The lake contributes an average of 18 million litres of water per day to the city.

The rainfall has boosted the overall water levels in the city's lakes to 40.96%, up from 39.61% in 2023 and significantly higher than the 88.5% recorded in 2022. Despite the heavy rainfall and the positive impact on water levels, the city is still experiencing some challenges. Waterlogging was reported in Kurla on Saturday due to the heavy rain and ongoing Metro work in the area. A yellow alert has been issued for the rest of the week, indicating that more rainfall is expected.

The yellow alert serves as a reminder for the city to remain vigilant and prepared for possible disruptions caused by heavy rainfall. With the monsoon season in full swing, Mumbai residents should remain informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
