Kejriwal's Health in Jail: LG Alleges Deliberate Weight Loss
  • LG alleges Kejriwal intentionally reduces calorie intake in jail
  • Kejriwal's weight loss attributed to low calorie intake, says LG
  • BJP claims Kejriwal's health claims are a ploy for bail

The ongoing political drama in Delhi has taken a new turn with allegations from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena about Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's health while in Tihar Jail. Saxena claims Kejriwal is deliberately reducing his calorie intake, despite being provided with adequate home-cooked meals, leading to a noticeable weight loss. This allegation, based on a report by the jail superintendent, has fueled a new round of accusations and counter-accusations between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP.

Saxena's letter to the Chief Secretary highlighted instances of “wilful low calorie intake” by Kejriwal, with the diet monitoring chart showing incomplete meals consumed between June 6 and July 13. He also expressed concerns about potential inconsistencies in insulin administration and discrepancies between glucometer readings and the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS). The LG's office has instructed prison authorities to advise Kejriwal to strictly adhere to the prescribed medication and diet, considering his type-II diabetes.

The BJP, seizing upon these allegations, accused Kejriwal of engaging in a “conspiracy” to undermine his own health in prison as a tactic to gain bail. They allege that Kejriwal, knowing his potential grounds for bail, is intentionally losing weight to present a weakened state in court. The BJP points to Kejriwal's vigorous campaigning during his 21-day interim bail for the Lok Sabha elections, juxtaposing it with his recent claims of poor health. This claim further intensifies the political battle between the two parties, with each accusing the other of using the situation for political gain.
