India to Host Asia Cup 2025 in T20 Format
  • India will host the 2025 Asia Cup.
  • The tournament will be played in T20 format.
  • Bangladesh will host the 2027 Asia Cup.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced that India will host the 2025 Asia Cup, while Bangladesh will host the 2027 edition. The decision was revealed in the Invitation for Expression of Interest (IEOI) released by the ACC for sponsorship rights for the upcoming tournaments. This confirmation comes after India's recent triumph in the 2023 Asia Cup, cementing their status as the most successful team in the competition's history with eight titles. Notably, India has previously hosted the tournament only once, back in 1990, where they emerged victorious against Sri Lanka in the final.

The 2025 Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format, aligning with the upcoming global T20 World Cup scheduled for 2026. This choice signifies the growing prominence of the T20 format on the international cricket scene. Conversely, the 2027 Asia Cup, hosted by Bangladesh, will be played in the ODI format, corresponding with the 50-over World Cup slated for South Africa in the same year. The consistent shift between T20 and ODI formats for the Asia Cup mirrors the evolving global cricketing landscape.

Both editions of the Asia Cup are scheduled to encompass 13 matches each. Alongside the established cricketing powerhouses – India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan – a sixth participant will be determined through a qualifying tournament. This inclusion provides an opportunity for emerging cricketing nations to showcase their talent and compete at the continental level. The announcement of the hosts and format for the next two Asia Cup editions has generated significant excitement among cricket fans worldwide, setting the stage for exciting contests and fierce competition in the coming years.
