India Rejects Mediation on China, Supports Ukraine Talks
  • India won't seek mediation on China conflict.
  • Quad FMs stress sovereignty, no dominance.
  • India seeks dialogue, diplomacy on Ukraine war.

India has made it clear that it is not seeking mediation from any third party regarding its ongoing border dispute with China. This statement, delivered by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during a visit to Tokyo, signifies India's commitment to resolving the issue bilaterally. Jaishankar emphasized that the conflict is a matter between India and China, and that both nations are engaged in dialogue to find a solution. This declaration comes on the heels of recent meetings between Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the ASEAN and SCO summits.

Meanwhile, the Quad, a strategic partnership between India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, has issued a joint statement emphasizing the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement asserts that no country should dominate others and that all nations have a responsibility to contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity. This statement carries significant weight in light of China's increasingly assertive foreign policy and its actions in the South China Sea.

Beyond the China-India situation, Jaishankar also addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He highlighted India's continued engagement with both Russia and Ukraine, reiterating the country's stance that a peaceful resolution cannot be achieved through military means. India has consistently called for dialogue and diplomacy to end the conflict, and Jaishankar's statement reinforces this commitment. While reports suggest that Prime Minister Modi may visit Kyiv, Jaishankar stated that India will announce its position on any potential visits at the appropriate time through the relevant channels.
