In a fiery speech delivered during the Lok Sabha budget discussion, BJP MP Etala Rajendar launched a scathing attack on Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of spreading misinformation regarding agriculture, unemployment, and social justice. Rajendar, speaking for the first time in Parliament, argued that while the Congress party held power for over 50 years in independent India, it had failed to genuinely address the concerns of farmers. He asserted that it was the Narendra Modi government that had finally implemented the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee, a crucial step towards improving the agricultural sector.
Rajendar went on to highlight the tragic reality of thousands of farmers committing suicide during the Congress regime. He contrasted this with the Modi government's efforts, citing the substantial increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy, rising from Rs 1,360 in 2014-15 to Rs 2,320. He also lauded the government's initiative to promote natural farming, acknowledging the potential for reduced productivity but emphasizing the long-term benefits of a healthier India and a reduction in diseases.
Rajendar's criticisms extended to Rahul Gandhi's claims of social justice. He characterized the Congress leader's pronouncements on this issue as a complete farce, citing the absence of a Dalit, Tribal, or OBC chief minister in Telangana during the Congress's rule. He further pointed out the Congress's loss of the main opposition party status in both 2014 and 2019, highlighting Rahul Gandhi's reluctance to become the opposition leader in these instances but his eagerness to assume the role after the party regained the status this time. In contrast, Rajendar highlighted the NDA government's inclusivity, with the appointment of 12 Dalits, 8 STs, and 27 OBCs as Union ministers. He concluded by stating that the Congress had never offered such support to the weaker sections of society.
