Mudragada Padmanabham, a senior leader of the YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party), has officially changed his name to 'Padmanabha Reddy'. This name change was a fulfillment of a pledge he made during the recent election campaign in Andhra Pradesh.
The reason behind this name change is directly linked to his failure to ensure the defeat of Pawan Kalyan, the chief of the Janasena party, in the Assembly elections. Mr. Kalyan, surprisingly, secured victory from the Pithapuram Assembly constituency.
During the campaign, Mr. Padmanabham, then known as Mudragada Padmanabham, had confidently challenged that he would defeat Mr. Kalyan. However, the results proved otherwise, leading to Mr. Padmanabham fulfilling his pledge by changing his name.
Mr. Padmanabham, a septuagenarian, emphasized that this name change was entirely his own decision, stating that no external force pressured him to do so. He revealed to the media that he felt compelled to change his name due to the alleged abuse he received from Mr. Kalyan's fans and followers.
He expressed his concern about the incessant offensive messages he was receiving from the youth who supported Mr. Kalyan. He felt this behavior was inappropriate and urged them to focus on constructive actions instead.
Mr. Padmanabham, a prominent leader of the Kapu community and a former minister, has been a vocal advocate for reservation for the Kapu community. He joined the YSRCP a few months before the elections, aiming to further his political agenda.
The incident highlights the intense competition and rivalry within Andhra Pradesh politics. Mr. Padmanabham's name change, though seemingly symbolic, underscores the pressure and expectations placed on politicians during election campaigns.
It also sheds light on the impact of social media and online behavior on political figures, particularly in a highly charged political environment like Andhra Pradesh.
