Union Minister Yadav Takes Charge of Environment Ministry, Emphasises LiFE Initiative
Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has assumed charge of the ministry, expressing his commitment to continue focusing on initiatives like Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE).
LiFE is a sustainable development initiative announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Glasgow Climate Conference in 2021. It promotes mindful consumption and aims to mobilise individuals towards climate-positive behaviour. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has projected that the adoption of changes proposed under LiFE can reduce annual global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by over 2 billion tonnes by 2030.
Minister Yadav emphasized the government's belief in balancing conservation and development. He highlighted the 'Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam' plantation initiative, which aims to counter global warming. Yadav called upon citizens to participate in the initiative and ensure the survival of saplings. He expressed the government's commitment to a green economy for the country.
LiFE seeks to create an ecosystem that reinforces and enables environmentally friendly behaviour. It aims to encourage mindful consumption patterns, reduce carbon emissions, and promote sustainable lifestyles. The initiative has garnered international recognition, with the IEA acknowledging its potential to make a significant contribution to global climate mitigation efforts.
