  • Naveen Patnaik's aide, VK Pandian, quits politics after BJD's defeat in Odisha elections.
  • Pandian cited perception of him as an outsider and lack of political ambitions as reasons for leaving.
  • Pandian denies aspirations for political post or succession to Patnaik.

VK Pandian, Naveen Patnaik's key aide, has announced his departure from active politics following the BJD's disappointing performance in the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.

Pandian, a former IAS officer who joined the BJD in November 2022, released a video message explaining his decision. He expressed his gratitude for the love and affection he has received from the people of Odisha since arriving in the state.

Pandian stated that his primary motivation for joining politics was to assist his mentor, Naveen Patnaik, and that he had no desire for political positions or power. He emphasized that he is not a candidate and does not hold any position within the BJD.

However, Pandian acknowledged that the perception of him as an outsider, fueled by the BJP's campaign, may have contributed to the BJD's poor showing in the elections.

Despite rumors of his potential as Patnaik's political successor, Pandian denied any such aspirations, stating that the people of Odisha will determine Patnaik's successor.

Pandian expressed regret for any harm he may have caused and apologized to the Biju parivar, including all workers. He reaffirmed his deep affection for Odisha and his mentor, Naveen Patnaik, and stated that he will continue to pray for their prosperity.

Patnaik had previously defended Pandian against criticism in the wake of the poll results, dismissing rumors of Pandian's succession and emphasizing that the people of Odisha would decide his successor.
