Tyagi Rejects INDIA Bloc's Offer, Claims JD(U) Supports NDA
  • Nitish Kumar refused INDIA bloc's offer to become national convenor.
  • INDIA bloc now offers Kumar prime ministership, but JD(U) rejects it.
  • JD(U) firmly supports BJP-led NDA.

KC Tyagi, a prominent leader of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], has claimed that the party rejected an offer from the Indian National Democratic Alliance (INDIA) bloc to appoint Nitish Kumar as the Prime Minister of India.

Tyagi's statement comes amidst reports that the INDIA bloc had approached Kumar, who is the Chief Minister of Bihar, and N Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), to join their alliance.

Both leaders have extended their support to Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister-designate, but are reportedly negotiating for cabinet berths and other demands.

Tyagi, one of the senior-most politicians in Kumar's JD(U), has asserted that the party remains firmly with the NDA.

He has criticized the INDIA bloc for its alleged ill-treatment of Kumar, which led to his decision to quit the alliance.

Tyagi has also emphasized that the BJP has shown great respect to the JD(U).

Kumar's return to the BJP-led alliance in January came after Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, had proposed Mallikarjun Kharge as the potential PM candidate for the INDIA bloc.

Kumar's party had accused the Congress, a major constituent of the INDIA bloc, of attempting to dominate the alliance.

It is noteworthy that Kumar had played a key role in forging the Opposition's alliance prior to the general elections.

The BJP-led NDA, including Kumar's JD(U) and Naidu's TDP, has emerged victorious in the recently concluded general elections, securing 293 seats.

The INDIA bloc, on the other hand, has won 234 seats.
